Special Events
Special trips are planned throughout the year for Club members to visit public/private gardens and arboreta in our area. A focus of trips for the 2023-24 will include visits to member gardens with lunch. Events are announced at Club General Meetings, in the Weeder’s Digest and here on our website.
Tuesday, April 9, 10:30 am – Noon. New Member Coffee. There will be a new member’s coffee in April. This will be hosted at Kathy McMeekin’s home.
Saturday, April 20, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. RA Spring Native Plant Sale pickup will be at the Walker Nature House. Orders can be placed online until April 5th @ 2024 Native Plant Sale from RA which will redirect you to RA’s WebTrac website for purchases. Saturday, May 11, 10 am – 3 pm. Gardens of Note: A self-guided tour of six (6) notable Reston gardens, with pop-up musical entertainment. Proceeds benefit The Reston Chorale and the Reston Garden Club. Discounted tickets available in advance online for $20 and at Garden Club general meetings April 2 and May 7; full-price tickets ($25) will be available at the gardens on May 11. We need volunteers from our Club to be at each garden as helpful docents. There will be a meeting at each garden at an earlier time so guides can familiarize themselves with the garden layout and plants. Each docent will receive a free tour pass and will have ample time to visit the other gardens. Please mark your calendars and plan to support this terrific community fundraiser.
Friday, May 17, 10:30 am. Private Garden Tour in Great Falls. We will visit the lovely gardens of Ellen Ash. Ellen’s grounds have whimsical sculptures and other creative features, making this trip a wonderful delight. Our hostess has graciously offered for us to have lunch on her grounds. This way some may wander the grounds longer than others. Participants are asked to bring a bagged lunch. Further details and sign-up will be at our May meeting.
Tuesday, May 14 RGC Member’s Plant Sale at Walker Nature Center This year’s Reston Garden Club Member’s Plant Sale will be held at the Walker Nature Center. Please consider potting your plants as you divide them during your Spring gardening. Please pot them early so they will be in good shape. Well cared for houseplants can also be donated, along with garden items such as decorative pots and trellises. Be sure to label them and include the lighting needs of the plant. All plants are to be dropped of at the Nature House on Glade Drive between 11:45am to 12:00. The actual sale begins at 1:00 pm. See more details in the April or May Weeder’s Digest.
Saturday, May 18 Green Spring Garden Plant Sale/Garden Day The lawn will be filled with vendors and unusual plants (natives, edibles and also trees). Attendees can enjoy local artists and food vendors and a bake sale.
